Looking for Oregon coast engagement photos? The coast is one of my favorite places to shoot at and there are so many coastal towns and beaches to choose from. On the southern Oregon coast, you have Brookings and Samuel H Boardman Park (which is on my bucket list), there’s the central coast, like Newport, and the northern coast, closer to the Portland metro area. When it comes to the northern Oregon coast, my favorite locations are Cannon Beach, which will be featured in today’s gallery of Megan and Zander’s engagement photos, but also Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City. Truly so many options!
Now let’s get to it, we scheduled this engagement session for the last weekend of August in 2022. The weather was absolutely perfect; it was sunny and we had clear skies with a sunset. We continued shooting after the sun faded behind the horizon and took advantage of some blue hour photos as well. Because this is Oregon, the coast can have unpredictable weather at any time. I visited the same beach on the same weekend, one year later in 2023, and it was completely foggy. Still beautiful nonetheless, but if you can be flexible with rescheduling, that’s always best.
Megan and I knew each other from our sorority in college. I love following people on their life’s journey through photography and Megan is the perfect example of that. I took her graduation photos in 2022, then her engagement photos, wedding, and now coming up on more couples photos. These are the people I cherish the most and love to follow along with! <3
When you get engaged, there’s a high chance that the average person has never had professional photos taken before. Choosing a location can be a daunting task, but I always recommend having Oregon coast engagement photos, especially when it comes to candid posing. Something about the beach feels effortless, and we can be more playful with poses and simply enjoy time in a beautiful place. There’s so much space to run around and maybe even add an activity to your date, such as a picnic or something as simple as a glass of champagne like these two did.
They brought these champagne glasses from Whale Cove Inn, a hotel from another coastal town (Depoe Bay). To celebrate their engagement, they shook up their bottle and popped the champagne on the beach as the sun was setting. One of my favorite photos is the detail of the pouring into the glasses. Adding an activity like this helps produce more candid photos, so I always recommend incorporating something to do in your photos.
Another reason the coast is great is the diversity in backgrounds. There are so many great parks and forests on the coast. The photos below were taken just a short drive away at Ecola State Park. I love beach grass in photos as it provides a coastal and light feeling in your photos.
Schedule your Oregon coast engagement session today! I’d love to plan the session of your dreams.
