In-Home Couples Session

Couples

An in-home couples session is such a special way to commemorate the place you’re at in life because it’s in a space that is personalized with you and holds memories of time with your family. Brandy and Jerytt took the chance to remember the space they are in during their first year of marriage while it’s just the two of them and their sweet dog, Penelope.

Types of In-Home Sessions

  • Buying your first home
  • Moving out of your first home
  • A lifestyle family or newborn session
  • Getting a new pet
  • Rainy day or winter session
  • Just because

I love the idea of having a session at your home after buying a house or at a sentimental family property like a grandparent’s home. If you’re building a home, you could take some photos on the building site while it’s being built as well (with permission from the construction team).

For a lifestyle session, it could be a couples session or a family session with pets or children. While I do not currently offer traditional newborn photography, I LOVE lifestyle sessions where I capture your family in your element to remember the first weeks of a new life. For a couple, you can integrate little activities that you and your partner love doing together, such as cooking, drinking coffee, or playing board games.

Tips for Planning an In-Home Couples Session

  1. Clean your space. Make sure everything is in its place and reduce as much clutter as possible. Your space should be true to you, but you probably don’t want to look back at a messy living room.
  2. Allow as much natural light as possible. Open all of the blinds so your photographer can take advantage of the natural light. If artificial lighting is needed, it may cast very yellow. Some of that can be corrected in the editing process (or maybe that’s just the vibe you’re after), but natural light is best!
  3. Plan for a few different rooms in the house. The living room, kitchen, and bedroom are typically where I would shoot. And don’t be afraid to go outside! If you have a cute front porch or steps, those are some of my favorite spots as well.

When it comes to outfits for an in-home couples session, you can dress up like Brandy chose to during this session or opt for loungewear. I can also envision an adorable fall, winter, or holiday session inside with baking, Christmas décor, and pajamas. You can find more outfit inspiration for your couples session on my Pinterest. The options are truly endless, and in-home sessions are great if you live somewhere with unreliable weather. In the Pacific Northwest, we don’t typically think of doing photo shoots in the winter, but this is one way to work around the rain.
